INTERNATIONAL FAIR FOR THE AHI COMMUNITY AND BUSINESS ETHICS SUMMIT
Today, the “Ahi Community” is perceived as a concept specific to craftsmen, and it reminds craftsmen and vice versa.
Being mostly active from the first half of the 13th century to the end of the 19th century, the Ahi Community is a functional social organization that brings Turkish people to maturity in professional, moral and social aspects and that manages the needs, behavioral patterns as well as working conditions and principles for those who are engaged in arts and professions.
The Ahi Community is the first of serious professional societies known as professional organizations and non-formal educational institutions. It has also taken the role of a non-governmental organization of its era.
The aim of the Ahi Community is to combine the Turkish manners, customs, and traditions with the Islamic faith and to develop individuals in social, personal, moral and professional aspects and bring them to maturity.
WHY IS THE AHI COMMUNITY MORE MEANINGFUL AND RELEVANT TODAY?
The underlying causes of today’s economic problems include the lack of morality and the capitalist mindset in the business world. The greed for money and the fear of losing have caused us lose our sensitivity to business ethics and move away from our cultural values. We need a business world which has adopted the ahi culture and prioritize fair distribution of legitimate profit, rather than one containing employers who financially and emotionally torture their employees and employees who fail to do their best to earn their wages. We need to raise generous and contended artisans and craftsmen, spreading the business ethics throughout the society.
In this respect, the “International Fair For The Ahi Community and Business Ethics Summit” will be hosted at Selçuklu Congress Center, Konya, from 27 to 30 November 2019 under the auspices of the Presidency.
